Gynecomastia (Male Breast Reduction Surgery)

Men will sometimes have excessively developed breast tissue. This may be related to hormonal balance, liver disease, medications, but often is related to weight fluctuations. It can be uncomfortable and socially and psychologically devastating to men of all ages. Surgery can offer a solution to this problem. Male breast enlargement is associated with excess fat, and/or enlarged glandular tissue. Men who have lost a lot of weight may have excess skin as well. Dr. Friedlander will review the treatment of gynecomastia with you. This usually involves liposuction which requires a small inconspicuous incision to recontour or sculpt the fat. If the breast enlargement is caused by glandular tissue, or if there is excess skin, additional incisions may be required. The procedure is performed as an outpatient and may safely be performed with other contouring surgeries such as liposuction of the "love handles". Patients are able to return to work shortly after the procedure.
