SkinMedica Peels

SkinMedica has formulated a comprehensive system of peels which improve the skin by removing the damaged outer layers to improve the texture of the skin. There are 3 different peels which are recommended based on the needs of your skin. Each contains several different acids in concentrations that are safe for all skin types. They are designed to treat a variety of conditions including photodamage, fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, acne scarring and acne. All peels are non invasive, penetrating the outer skin layers only. The peels are performed by Dr Friedlander or her licensed aesthetician or nurse.

Illuminize Peel

This is a very superficial chemical peel using alpha-hydroxy acids (mandelic acid and malic acid) in combination with phytic acid and commonly used peeling agents (salicylic acid and resorcinol) to maximize skin rejuvenating effects with low irritation. It Increases skin glow and radiance, tightens the skin and restores a more youthful appearance and improves clarity, color and skin texture. It is appropriate for first-time chemical peel patients or patients looking for a gentle, very superficial peel with little or no visible peeling and no down time.

Vitalize Peel

This is a powerful yet non-damaging peel that can take years off aging skin. It helps fight the effects of time, sun damage, and environmental assaults. It addresses various skin conditions, such as pigmentation abnormalities, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, melasma, and photodamage while also smoothing fine lines and wrinkles. It can achieve visible improvement after one treatment and significant results after a series of treatments. It can be customized for the treatment of each specific condition. It uses Retinoic acid in combination with other mid strength acids to create more exfoliation than other chemical peels of the same depth resulting in more noticeable outcomes. These peels are well tolerated and have little down time. They result in peeling lasting about 2-3 days, beginning a few days after the peel solution has been applied. Cleansers sunscreens and TNS recovery complex containing many of the products we spoke of above is recommended to enhance the result. The best results are achieved with a series of 3-6 peels.

Rejuvenize Peel

Rejuvenize Peel is the strongest of the peels, having an advanced formulation of peeling agents, with a built-in anti-irritant and penetration enhancer that provides controlled exfoliation of the uppermost damaged layers of the skin to reveal fresher and healthier skin. It can be used in all skin types after a patient has demonstrated tolerance to the vitalize peel or has conditioned the skin with Retinoids. It is most effective on skin with sun damage, melasma, pigmentary changes and acne scarring. Noticeable improvement is seen with just one peel although maximal improvement requires 3-6 peels. Peeling of the skin lasts 3-5 days. It is well tolerated and has minimal down time.
