Brow Lift

in Short Hills, New Jersey

Eventually, everyone will experience the negative effects of gravity. Gravity causes everything to sag, including the brows. But you don’t have to let gravity win. Brow lift surgery, also known as a forehead lift, offers relief from sagging brows and lines across the forehead by restoring a more youthful and natural brow. Dr. Beverly Friedlander offers NJ brow lift surgery for patients who want a rejuvenated appearance and a boost in confidence.

What is Brow Lift Surgery?

Board Certified Female Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Beverly Friedlander

Aging, gravity, sun damage, and repeated muscle contractions cause the muscles in the forehead to weaken, thus creating lines and wrinkles and contributing to sagging brows. Brow lift surgery raises the brow to a more aesthetically pleasing position without creating an unnatural look. This procedure also improves the fullness over the outside corners of the lid that may be mistaken for a droopy lid.

Am I a Candidate for Brow Lift Surgery?

Beverly Friedlander, MD

Brow lift surgery may be for you if you are unhappy with the horizontal lines and furrows on your forehead. This lift is intended to restore a more youthful and refreshed look to the upper face by softening lines and raising the brows to a natural elevation and shape. This surgery can provide dramatic results, regardless of age. Candidacy for this procedure will depend on your extent of forehead laxity and your overall health.

Ideal Brow Lift candidates:

  • Do not smoke
  • Are in good overall health
  • Do not have any conditions that impair healing
  • Have some skin elasticity
  • Have realistic expectations

Where are my Brow Lift Incisions Located?

Several brow lift approaches may be used, and the one for you will depend on your needs.

  • A lateral scalp incision lifts the outer portion of the brow and can be incorporated into a facelift. This is Dr. Friedlander’s preferred method.
  • An anterior hairline incision (in front of the hairline) is beneficial for patients with high foreheads.
  • A coronal brow lift is appropriate for patients with excessive sun damage or very thick skin.
  • A direct brow incision may be recommended for men.

Through these incisions:

  1. The skin is separated from the underlying tissues.
  2. The muscles will be weakened.
  3. The tissues are secured with sutures.
  4. The skin will be tightened, elevating the brows.
  5. The incisions are closed with sutures or staples.

These incisions heal well and are often unnoticeable in the hairline. By releasing and reattaching the brow with sutures rather than with devices or screws, Dr. Friedlander can achieve facial harmony without creating an excessively high brow.

Should I Combine Other Surgical Procedures with my Brow Lift?

Beverly Friedlander, MD

Brow lift surgery is a standalone procedure, but it can be performed with other facial surgeries to reduce sagging and wrinkles elsewhere on the face and achieve more youthful contours. Combining procedures helps to ensure that your facial features remain in harmony with each other and that you project a youthful and friendly appearance.

Common combination procedures include:

What can I Expect During my Brow Lift Recovery?

The brow lift is an outpatient procedure, but you will need someone to drive you home and assist you for the first 24 to 48 hours.

There may be some post-operative swelling or bruising, which resolves quickly. You may notice a slight ridge in the hairline that persists for several weeks. This is normal and will resolve itself. Any post-operative discomfort can be alleviated with prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication. Sutures or staples will be removed after seven to 10 days, and you will be able to return to work within one week if no other surgery is being performed.

Are There Any Risks Associated with Brow Lift Surgery?

Beverly Friedlander, MD

Brow lift surgery is a surgical procedure, and carries risks, although unusual. Dr. Friedlander will evaluate your medical history to determine if there are any conditions that might increase your chances of complications. These conditions include high blood pressure and clotting problems. While complications are unusual, they can include:

  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Prolonged wound healing
  • Swelling
  • Unfavorable scarring
  • Asymmetry

When will I see my Brow Lift Results?

Board Certified Female Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Beverly Friedlander

Your results will start to show in the days following your brow lift but will take several weeks to develop fully.

This is due to bruising and swelling. Once the swelling does subside, you will be able to see your smoother forehead and more shapely and elevated eyebrows. Brow lift surgery will not stop the natural aging process. Therefore, you will need to maintain your results by staying out of the sun, keeping your skin moisturized, eating a healthy diet, and considering non-surgical cosmetic treatments like BOTOX® Cosmetic and laser rejuvenation treatments. Most brow lift patients experience long-lasting results.
