What is Sculptra?

Sculptra injections are a synthetic compound that helps to turn back the clock and provide subtle or profound improvement for your skin. This injectable filler is composed of a biocompatible poly-L-lactic (PLLA) acid that gradually stimulates collagen production to restore natural youthfulness and facial balance. While many dermal fillers can restore the volume loss caused by diminishing collagen, they cannot restore the collagen itself. On the other hand, Sculptra stimulates your body to make more collagen, adding strength and vitality to your skin. Since it is your collagen being created, the results will look natural.

How is Sculptra Different from Other Injectable Fillers?

While it is still considered an injectable filler, Sculptra does not work in the same way as hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers such as injectable Restylane® and JUVÉDERM®. HA fillers instantly add volume to plump the facial contours. Sculptra, on the other hand, is designed to stimulate collagen production for natural fullness and smoothness. While the results of Sculptra last much longer than other fillers, they are not as immediate. Often, it takes several weeks for Sculptra results to start showing.

How Should I Prepare for My Sculptra Treatment?

Before your Sculptra injections, Dr. Friedlander asks that you avoid taking aspirin, NSAIDs, and any other blood-thinning medications. These increase the chance of bruising and other side effects.

During Your Sculptra Appointment:

Your face is washed.
Sculptra is mixed with lidocaine to increase your comfort during your treatment.
During your first session, Sculptra will be injected in all regions of your face. Subsequent treatments may focus or direct injections toward specific concerns or address asymmetries.

These repeated treatments will help to improve the quality and duration of your results with Sculptra. Typically, most individuals benefit from a series of two to three treatments of Sculptra spaced four to six weeks apart. Your results will be assessed after your last treatment to determine if additional Sculptra is necessary.

Should I Combine Sculptra with Other Treatments?

Sculptra can be performed alone to stimulate collagen production or alongside other facial rejuvenation procedures to further enhance your results. Common combination treatments include:

A liquid facelift, to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles and provide immediate fullness to facial contours

What Can I Expect During My Sculptra Recovery?

At True Beauty Med Spa in New Jersey Sculptra is performed in our office, and you can return to your regular schedule immediately after your treatment. It is common to develop swelling at the injection sites. You will be asked to massage all facial areas five times a day for five minutes at a time for the first five days after Sculptra treatment. These massages will help reduce swelling and help distribute the Sculptra evenly throughout the tissue.

Are There any Risks Associated with Sculptra?

Sculptra involves non-surgical injections that are very safe. As with all fillers, some temporary side effects can develop. These include swelling, tenderness, redness, discomfort, bruising, itching, and granulomas.

Granulomas are small lumps that develop in the Sculptra treatment areas. These lumps are very uncommon and can be lessened with the use of massage. Since Sculptra stimulates collagen production instead of temporarily filling a thinning area, the results are not immediate. Most of our NJ Sculptra patients start to see their results within four to six weeks of the treatment, which will gradually improve over the following months. A Sculptra treatment lasts up to two years, although it may last longer. Sculptra Aesthetic studies have only monitored longevity for two years. Even though Sculptra stimulates collagen and is long-lasting, it will not last forever. Touch-up Sculptra treatments are suggested every few years to maintain your results.
