Xeomin has become a trusted name in wrinkle reduction over the last 15 years. New Jersey plastic surgeon Dr. Beverly Friedlander recognizes that Xeomin provides the same smooth, natural results as Botox Cosmetic, with a subtlety that prevents the “overdone” look. As a neuromodulator with a longstanding track record, Xeomin is widely used by Dr. Friedlander for both men and women as an effective alternative to Botox. It temporarily reduces muscle activity, minimizing the appearance of wrinkles while maintaining a natural look. Xeomin is also often paired with fillers and other spa treatments to create a refreshed, youthful appearance.
A Botox Cosmetic Alternative with Proven Results
Introduced in 2011, Xeomin has been an FDA-approved option for cosmetic and non-cosmetic uses for over a decade. Known for its purer formulation, Xeomin acts like Botox and Dysport in blocking nerve receptors but is a more refined product, free from unnecessary proteins. This purity makes it a valuable option for those who don’t respond to other neuromodulators, providing an alternative with an established record of safety and effectiveness.
Beverly Friedlander, MD
It works very much like Botox Cosmetic and Dysport. It targets the muscle that causes the contraction leading to a wrinkle, by preventing the uptake of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter. It has both cosmetic and non cosmetic uses. It is FDA approved for temporary improvement in glabellar (between the eyebrows) frown lines. Xeomin is also approved to treat muscle spasm in the neck and blepharospasm, or abnormal muscular contractions in the muscle surrounding the eye in patients previously treated with Botox Cosmetic.
There are minor differences between Xeomin and Botox Cosmetic. These differences may play an important role in patients who are resistant to Botox Cosmetic. A small percentage of patients show little or no improvement when Botox Cosmetic is injected by a skilled injector. This may be related to the presence of certain proteins on the Botox Cosmetic molecule. This protein is a biological marker which is not needed for activity. The absence of these proteins on the Xeomin molecule may render it effective in these patients.

Simply put, most doctors, including Dr. Friedlander, use Xeomin when Botox Cosmetic and Dysport don’t work. This happens in a very small percentage of patients. The easiest way to understand this is to think of an allergic reaction preventing the Botox Cosmetic from working. This “allergic” reaction is caused by a protein found in Botox Cosmetic and Dysport. Removing this protein, as is done in Xeomin, prevents the inhibitory allergic reaction and allows Xeomin to function when Botox Cosmetic and Dysport won’t.
To ensure that your Xeomin results look their best and last as long as possible, it’s important to adopt a few simple maintenance practices. While Xeomin treatments typically last three to four months, following these tips can help extend your results and keep your skin looking refreshed:
