Xeomin

in Short Hills, New Jersey

Xeomin has become a trusted name in wrinkle reduction over the last 15 years. New Jersey plastic surgeon Dr. Beverly Friedlander recognizes that Xeomin provides the same smooth, natural results as Botox Cosmetic, with a subtlety that prevents the “overdone” look. As a neuromodulator with a longstanding track record, Xeomin is widely used by Dr. Friedlander for both men and women as an effective alternative to Botox. It temporarily reduces muscle activity, minimizing the appearance of wrinkles while maintaining a natural look. Xeomin is also often paired with fillers and other spa treatments to create a refreshed, youthful appearance.

What is Xeomin?

A Botox Cosmetic Alternative with Proven Results

Introduced in 2011, Xeomin has been an FDA-approved option for cosmetic and non-cosmetic uses for over a decade. Known for its purer formulation, Xeomin acts like Botox and Dysport in blocking nerve receptors but is a more refined product, free from unnecessary proteins. This purity makes it a valuable option for those who don’t respond to other neuromodulators, providing an alternative with an established record of safety and effectiveness.

How does Xeomin Work?

Beverly Friedlander, MD

It works very much like Botox Cosmetic and Dysport. It targets the muscle that causes the contraction leading to a wrinkle, by preventing the uptake of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter. It has both cosmetic and non cosmetic uses. It is FDA approved for temporary improvement in glabellar (between the eyebrows) frown lines. Xeomin is also approved to treat muscle spasm in the neck and blepharospasm, or abnormal muscular contractions in the muscle surrounding the eye in patients previously treated with Botox Cosmetic.

How is Xeomin Different from Botox Cosmetic?

There are minor differences between Xeomin and Botox Cosmetic. These differences may play an important role in patients who are resistant to Botox Cosmetic. A small percentage of patients show little or no improvement when Botox Cosmetic is injected by a skilled injector. This may be related to the presence of certain proteins on the Botox Cosmetic molecule. This protein is a biological marker which is not needed for activity. The absence of these proteins on the Xeomin molecule may render it effective in these patients.

Why use Xeomin?

True Beauty Med Spa

Simply put, most doctors, including Dr. Friedlander, use Xeomin when Botox Cosmetic and Dysport don’t work. This happens in a very small percentage of patients. The easiest way to understand this is to think of an allergic reaction preventing the Botox Cosmetic from working. This “allergic” reaction is caused by a protein found in Botox Cosmetic and Dysport. Removing this protein, as is done in Xeomin, prevents the inhibitory allergic reaction and allows Xeomin to function when Botox Cosmetic and Dysport won’t.

Xeomin Aftercare and Upkeep

To ensure that your Xeomin results look their best and last as long as possible, it’s important to adopt a few simple maintenance practices. While Xeomin treatments typically last three to four months, following these tips can help extend your results and keep your skin looking refreshed:

  • Schedule Regular Touch-Ups: To maintain smooth skin and reduce the reappearance of lines and wrinkles, consider scheduling touch-up sessions every three to four months. Regular maintenance can prevent deep creases from forming over time.
  • Incorporate a Good Skincare Routine: Using high-quality skincare products that promote hydration, protect against environmental damage, and support collagen production will enhance the longevity of your results. Consider adding serums with antioxidants, peptides, and hyaluronic acid into your routine.
  • Protect Your Skin from the Sun: Always use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30. UV exposure can break down collagen and cause new lines and wrinkles, which can reduce the effectiveness of Xeomin over time.
  • Stay Hydrated and Nourished: Drinking plenty of water and maintaining a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals supports skin health from within, helping you maintain a youthful glow.
  • Avoid Excessive Heat and Stress on the Face: Refrain from using saunas or engaging in activities that expose your face to high heat immediately after treatment. This can help prevent Xeomin from wearing off prematurely.

What are the Side Effects of Xeomin?

Xeomin treatment is similar to Botox Cosmetic and Dysport in all respects. During your treatment with Xeomin New Jersey plastic surgeon Dr. Friedlander will administer several tiny injections used to target the muscles causing the wrinkle. Side effects are uncommon and most often are associated with headache or swelling.

Cost of Xeomin

The cost of Xeomin treatments depends on the number of units required and the areas being treated. Each individual’s treatment plan is unique and customized according to their aesthetic goals. During your consultation at True Beauty Med Spa, Dr. Friedlander will evaluate your needs and provide a detailed cost estimate.

Typically, the cost of Xeomin is comparable to Botox and Dysport. Many patients find that enrolling in the Xperience Rewards Program by Merz, the parent company of Xeomin, helps to offset costs by providing pre-paid Visa cards that can be used toward Xeomin and other Merz products like Radiesse.

Is There a Savings Program with Xeomin?

Much like program for the other wrinkle reducers, Merz, the parent company of Xeomin, offers a loyalty program called Xperience. This program is a bit different in that it offers pre paid Visa cards instead of reward points. It too can be used for all Merz injectables such as Radiesse.
