Lumecca is a safe, non-ablative skin treatment that uses powerful Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy to improve the appearance of your skin. Lumecca™ is one of the most powerful IPL photofacial devices available, leading to clearance in as few as one to two treatments, unlike other IPL Laser treatment devices that typically require four to six treatments.

Intense pulsed light targets the deeper dermis, where the cells and blood vessels reside. It works through a process called selective photothermolysis. Unlike lasers, which use a single wavelength, IPL consists of multiple wavelengths, allowing a single device to treat many different problems.
Pigment and blood vessels respond to specific wavelengths by absorbing them, converting the light to heat. The heat disintegrates the cell containing the pigment or the vessel. The pigment is lifted out of the tissue, and gradually makes its way to the surface, leading to improvement in your pigmentation, sun damage, capillaries (blood vessels), and redness as well as skin irregularities on the face, neck, hands, chest, arms, and legs. The IPL Laser also stimulates collagen production in the skin, resulting in photorejuvenation that will leave you loving your skin.
We are exposed to a variety of toxins on a daily basis. Sunlight, radiation, and pollution combined with the natural aging process lead to fine lines, wrinkles, and changes in texture and color of our skin.
Despite the use of sunscreen and a good skin care regimen, ongoing damage to the skin occurs every day. A photofacial is one means of restoring a healthy, youthful glow to our skin. IPL Laser treatments uses high-energy light waves to reduce or eliminate many common effects of aging, including facial wrinkles and skin discolorations. The treatment is effective immediately with no downtime. We can’t eliminate the threat of environmental factors, but we can utilize light energy to reverse much of the damage to our skin.

You may be a good candidate for Lumecca if you are light-skinned (Fitzpatrick I-IV) and struggle with one or more of the following skin issues:
There are contraindications to the procedure. You may not be a candidate for IPL photofacial if you have a tan, are darkly pigmented (as with Fitzpatrick V-VI skin), or if you have melasma. Dr. Friedlander will review your medical history with you to ensure the procedure is appropriate. She may suggest other interventions to help lift and lighten your skin.
Photodamage occurs on all areas of the body regularly exposed to the sun. Lumecca can be used to treat all of these areas. The most common areas treated are the face, neck, décolletage, and hands.
When receiving treatment with Lumecca's IPL Laser New Jersey's True Beauty Med Spa patients do so in the comfort and quietude of our office. You will be given goggles to protect your eyes from the bright flashes of light.
A cool gel is applied to the area being treated. The handpiece will deliver brief pulses of bright light that will feel similar to a rubber band snapping on your skin. You will notice some slight redness and a warm feeling on your skin after the treatment, but this resolves quickly. A Lumecca IPL treatment takes about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.
Lumecca is a safe and gentle IPL treatment. It has a strong, sapphire cooling tip that reduces discomfort and optimizes your results. You may experience some slight redness and skin sensitivity following your Lumecca session, but this will subside after a few hours.

Since Lumecca is a minimally invasive procedure, you can resume all regular activities the same day as your IPL Laser treatment.
Darkening of the pigmented areas will occur as the pigment lifts out, and you may see “coffee grounds” on your skin. This will slough off in three to five days, leaving a smoother, less blotchy appearance. The most important thing that you can do is to avoid direct sun exposure and tanning for four weeks after (and before) the IPL Photofacial and make sure to apply sunscreen liberally to protect your skin.

In one to two weeks, you can expect a much smoother skin tone and a bright, healthy complexion after your New Jersey IPL treatment with Lumecca. The pigmented areas become darker, flaking off after several days, resulting in a more even skin tone and color. The vessels may become darker as well, showing improvement after several days. A gradual improvement in redness can be expected. While results are typically noticeable after the first treatment, you may require multiple Lumecca sessions to achieve the look you want. For the best results, your IPL treatments should be performed between three and four weeks apart. Dr. Friedlander will determine the best course of action to make sure you are left with beautiful, radiant skin.
While all procedures do carry some risk, most patients do not experience any problems after their IPL Laser treatment as long as they stay out of the sun. Post-treatment hyperpigmentation is uncommon.
