Microneedling

in New Jersey

Want a fresher, more even complexion with minimal downtime? Over time, many patients become dissatisfied with their appearance due to facial imperfections caused by age, sun damage, and environmental factors. Issues such as wrinkles, poor texture, and uneven pigment can cause a person to lose their youthful glow and make them look older. Microneedling is a simple way to naturally renew and rejuvenate your skin. While some patients look into plastic surgery, others desire a non-surgical approach that will rejuvenate their face without having to endure a lengthy procedure and recovery. Dr. Friedlander offers her patients in New Jersey Microneedling as a non-surgical treatment to help you achieve brighter and firmer skin in just a matter of minutes.

What is Microneedling?

BOARD-CERTIFIED Female Plastic Surgeon Dr. Beverly Friedlander

Certain lifestyle factors like stress, excessive exposure to the sun, smoking, and drinking can cause irregularities in the skin’s tone and texture, causing you to look older. Microneedling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT) is a new innovation in aesthetic medicine.

As a non-invasive procedure that stimulates collagen, it is useful for improving fine lines, acne scars, pigmentation, and even stretch marks. It is used most often on the face and décolleté to help make the skin look firm and fresh. Skin-enhancing serums can be applied to the freshly microneedled areas to provide further refinement and help restore your youthful glow. During your microneedling New Jersey aesthetic expert, Dr. Friedlander will use a device with tiny needles that penetrate the outer layers of the skin, creating miniature puncture wounds, called microchannels. As these tiny channels heal, they promote the production of new collagen and elastin, the backbones of healthy, youthful skin. Gels containing hyaluronic acids and protein peptides are applied to the skin before and during the procedure so they can penetrate the deeper skin layers through the microchannels, stimulating additional rejuvenation.

What can Microneedling do for me?

Microneedling gives you silkier, smoother, brighter skin in a minimally invasive treatment that is easy to fit into your lifestyle. Sessions take thirty minutes to an hour and require no downtime afterward. Microneedling has powerful collagen-induction properties and also works as a delivery system for high-quality, skin-boosting serums and PRP after-serums. It offers synergistic benefits for the texture, tone, and overall appearance of your skin:

  • Improved skin texture and tone
  • Reduced scarring, including atrophic acne scars
  • Wrinkle and fine line reduction
  • Minimized pore size
  • Hyperpigmentation treatment
  • Stretch mark improvement
  • Can be combined with PRP or radiofrequency for added benefits
  • Enhanced absorption of topical products
  • Hair loss treatment
  • Overall skin rejuvenation

What are My Microneedling Options?

Beverly Friedlander, MD

Microneedling with PRP

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. Platelet-rich plasma is a component of your blood. It contains many different growth factor proteins that have long been known to have regenerative properties. Microneedling with PRP (platelet-rich plasma) uses your own blood, which contains growth factors that can promote natural healing and the production of new cells. During your treatment, a small sample of your blood is drawn and centrifuged to separate the platelets found within it. The platelets are concentrated and re-suspended in your plasma. This becomes the PRP, which is then applied to the treated area and will penetrate through the dermis via the microchannels just created with microneedling. When used in combination with microneedling, PRP can help correct a variety of age-related concerns such as sun spots, fine lines, wrinkles, and more, resulting in a more rapid improvement.

Microneedling with Radiofrequency (Morpheus8)

As we age, our skin loses firmness and resiliency, resulting in increasing laxity, fine lines, and wrinkles. These are caused by ongoing changes in the layers of our skin. Microneedling addresses the superficial changes in our skin, but with Morpheus8, we can target the deeper layers simultaneously. Microneedling with RF combines the collagen-boosting effects of microneedling with the skin-tightening effects of radiofrequency, resulting in radiant skin with more youthful contours. Radiofrequency energy is used to deliver controlled heat to boost collagen and elastin production deeper in your skin. This anti-aging effect (in essence, a strengthening and remodeling of your collagen at a deeper level) not only results in a visible improvement in the texture, tone, and appearance of your skin but also in lifting and tightening. Microneedling with radiofrequency can also improve the appearance of sun damage, freckles, rosacea, spider veins, and dark spots.

What Will My Recovery from Microneedling Be Like?

True Beauty Med Spa

Microneedling is one of our most popular med spa procedures. We apply a topical ointment to numb the skin. The procedure is performed by gently pressing the device against the skin, creating multiple microchannels as it is moved across your skin.

Your skin will appear red, like a mild sunburn, immediately following your treatment. The redness lasts from one to four days. All regular activities may be resumed the day after your treatment, although it is best to limit strenuous activities, such as the gym, for a few days. The use of emollient moisturizers will soothe the skin and speed up the healing process. Gentle cleansers and sunscreens must be used to protect the treated areas.

What Results Can I Expect with Microneedling?

You can expect long-lasting results that will leave your skin looking healthy, young, and beautiful after your microneedling treatment. The best results are achieved with a series of four to six treatments, spaced about four to six weeks apart.

We find that the addition of radiofrequency (Morpheus8) has a more profound effect due to the deeper stimulation. We often see significant improvement in as few as three to four Morpheus8 treatments. There is an immediate glow to the skin, with visible changes seen as new collagen is formed. Since we can’t stop the aging process, we find that receiving maintenance treatments of microneedling once or twice a year is beneficial, especially around areas prone to fine lines and wrinkles, such as the lips and the décolleté.

Microneedling is safe and effective for all skin types. People with an active infection or certain skin conditions should not have microneedling.
